Social media isn’t just a place to connect—it’s a modern
marketplace where our attention, creativity, art, and even our
political voices are bought and sold. Whether we’re sharing
artwork, opinions, or organizing around causes, all of this
energy fuels the platforms’ growth and revenue. Marxism helps us
see how tech giants turn our online lives—including our artistic
and political expression—into profit, while we get little in
return. The value we create as users, artists, and citizens is
often monetized by founders and investors, rather than returning
to the creators or communities themselves. Next time you share a
piece of art or join a political discussion online, consider who
really owns the stage—and who’s cashing in behind the scenes.
